Monument to Forgotten Futures

This sculpture was the result of research into how blockchain technology constitutes and re-constitutes notions of history, trust, and truth.

While often portrayed as an infallible representation of contracts or transactions, the blockchain is one series of events selected out of a multitude of others. Procedural trajectories are selected for at particular moments, and possible futures become symbolic histories.

We play on the form of the monument to make visible the hidden choices and contingencies within this nascent technical configuration.
